What Causes poor vacuum performance?

Tangled, dirty brush rolls on your vacuum cleaner can:

·         Reduce the brush’s ability to agitate the carpet fibers.

·         Prevent bristles from reaching deep into the carpet.

·         Increase strain on the belt and motor.

·         Cause the brush roll to spin slower.

Pet hair is one of the biggest performance killers for vacuum cleaners because it affects both the mechanical parts and the airflow path.

Signs pet hair is hurting performance

Watch for:

ü  Hair remaining on carpet after vacuuming.

ü  Brush roll covered in tangled hair.

ü  Reduced pickup along edges.

ü  Dust bin filling with hair but not fine debris.

ü  Burning smell from a belt slipping.

ü  Unusual motor noise or warmer operation.

Effects on suction

Pet hair itself doesn’t reduce the motor’s ability to generate suction, but blockages created by hair can reduce the amount of air reaching the floor. The result feels like weaker suction even though the motor may still be working properly.

How does hair affect airflow?

Hair affects airflow mainly by creating restrictions in the vacuum's air path.

What happens?

A vacuum cleans by moving a large volume of air through the nozzle, hose, filters, and dust bin. Airflow is measured in CFM (cubic feet per minute). When hair accumulates, it narrows these passages and increases resistance to airflow.

1. Hair wraps around the brush roll

As hair builds up around the brush roll:

  • Less open space is available around the brush.
  • Debris has a harder time entering the suction path.
  • Carpet fibers are agitated less effectively.

The result is reduced airflow on the floor where cleaning actually occurs.

2. Reduced airflow means poorer cleaning

Lower airflow means the vacuum is less able to:

  • Carry dirt to the dust bin
  • Pick up larger debris
  • Remove fine dust from carpet
  • Capture pet hair from surfaces

A vacuum needs both airflow and suction to clean effectively. Restricting airflow reduces overall cleaning performance.

A surprisingly small amount of tightly wound hair on the brush roll can noticeably reduce pickup performance, by 30% or more, especially on carpet. That's why regular brush-roll cleaning is one of the highest-impact maintenance tasks for pet owners.

This is why we created the EZ Vac Brush. We’ve made it incredibly easy to quickly and effortlessly remove tangled hair wrap from your brush roll. So easy, that you could use it every time you vacuum and it only takes 30-60 seconds.

You wouldn’t put dirty dishes in the cabinet; you clean them first. Same concept, just much easier.

When you’re done vacuuming, simply run your vacuum over the EZ Vac Brush before you put your vacuum cleaner away. That way your vacuum is ready to do its best job for you every time!
